The National Local Government Day was celebrated in Saturia Upazila of Manikganj with the theme ``Youth`s commitment to building a country, local government in public service``.
On the occasion of the day, the upazila administration took a rally from the Parishad premises yesterday morning.
After the rally, a discussion meeting was held in the administrative building auditorium.
The meeting was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, Saturia Upazila Engineer Md. Imrul Hasan and many others. Upazila Engineer Imrul Hasan said at the discussion meeting, Upazila Engineer told the meeting that LGED has been working for the betterment of the rural marginalized population since its inception. LGED mainly works in three sectors: rural road development, small water resources development, and hat and bazaar development. There are 541 kilometers of roads under LGED in Saturia Upazila, of which about 50% have already been paved.
In addition, the construction of 10 bridges is currently underway, which if implemented will improve the socio-economic conditions of the local people. LGED Saturia is promising to work more efficiently for the development of the local people on Local Government Day.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Iqbal Hossain said in the meeting that 5478 local government institutions across the country are working to provide services to the people and change the quality of life. This day is being celebrated on February 25 every year to make services more easily available to the people`s doorsteps and increase public involvement.
He advised all departments, including local government institutions, to be public-facing. Officials of various departments and others were present at the time.
